Optimal Control Approach for Congestion Control in Multi-hop Communication Networks

In this paper, a continuous-time state space model approach is derived for congestion control in multiple hop communication networks. The model of single hop control is first proposed and then state feedback congestion control model of the entire network with multiple hops is suggested. A state space model equation is derived from the network model and linear quadratic regulator (LQR) as optimal control approach is used to prevent every buffer in multiple hops from overflowing. Simulation results on the example network show every buffer levels come close to reference levels with minimum errors. Since the proposed approach considers the case of multiple congestions, it stabilizes entire links in the network.
